Ascencion G. Bañuelos Jr., 74, of Midland, TX died on December 26th after a long undetected battle with cancer. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 53 years, Emma Bañuelos of Midland Tx and his four daughters Monica Garcia of Pecos, Dianna Thomas, Cynthia Bañuelos and Amelia Bañuelos, all of Midland. He had 9 loving grandchildren Victoria, Sabrina & Andrew Garcia, Isaiah & Jacob Thomas, Miguel Fuentes & Cassandra Reimer, and Aris & Rameses Orona. He was very proud to have had 3 great grandsons, Alex, Jayden and Augustin Jr. He also had two son-in-laws Christopher Thomas and David Reimer. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ascension Sr. and Elauteria Bañuelos, his brothers Jose, Jimmy and Lorenzo Bañuelos and his son-in-law James E. Garcia. After he graduated from Ector High School in 1970 he married his sweetheart Emma on March 6th, 1971. Shortly after, he joined the Navy on August 22, 1971 where he was stationed in San Diego and was deployed overseas to Vietnam for 7 months. While he was there he saw multiple ports including Hong Kong, the Philippines, Japan, and Hawaii to mention a few. He was honorably discharged May 22, 1976 where he returned home to Odessa, TX. Ascencion worked for many years to continue to support his family before retiring from Wal-Mart Human Resources in Hobbs, NM circa 2011. They moved to Seminole in 2012. To help pass the time after retirement, he decided to become a substitute teacher at Seminole ISD. He quickly became a favorite at the school district. Ascencion loved to talk about his travels during his time in the service, so much so that he dabbled in travel planning to help others have their own wonderful adventures. He also enjoyed spending time gardening, going on long walks, seeing new places and making the space around him aesthetically pleasing. Along with that, he absolutely enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, some of which looked at him as a father figure in their lives and credit him with the reason they are who they are today. He was always known for making others smile and laugh even if they had just met him, truly a shining star.Funeral services for Ascencion Bañuelos, will be held at Peaceful Gardens in Pecos, TX.
